Blue Power Energy announces PTO development contract with Wave Energy Scotland
Blue Power Energy are proud to announce that we have successfully been awarded a WES stage 2 contract for £306,530 for the development of our power take off system.
Blue Power Energy are one of 16 companies from a broad spectrum of countries who were successful in this hugely competitive call and obtained this contract to advance our technology towards commercialization.
Conor Haughey, director at Blue Power Energy explained “This is a huge opportunity to show case our technology and is a great platform to collaborate with various other technology developers in this field. Wave Energy Scotland have shown great commitment to support and accelerate the development of wave energy technology”.
The project is to design, develop and test a 5KW double acting PTO that is versatile enough to accept inputs from a range of different WEC devices. This PTO design can be scaled and is suitable for Attenuator and Point absorber type wave energy convertors. The PTO is being put through a rigorous test programme using real sea states (as illustrated above) by our partners at the Energy Technology center, in Glasgow.
